Introduction to Communication Service and Systems

Course Outline: This course provides an introduction to internet data communications including wide-area networks, local-area networks (LANs), cellular network and protocols. Basics such as transmission, media, signal encoding, link control and multiplexing are first introduced. Interconnectivity issues and integration of computer assets using LAN and wireless LAN are examined. Internetworking and transport protocols (TCP/IP) are also covered with TCP congestion control. Basic wireless communication environment and cellular networks are further discussed.
